Kidney Cancer Diagnosis
After conducting a physical examination, your doctor may check your urine and blood for signs of disease and to evaluate how well your kidneys are working. Kidney cancer is usually diagnosed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or an ultrasound test. Sometimes the doctor may also need to take a biopsy to look for the presence of cancer cells. This involves removing a small amount of tissue which is then examined in the laboratory.
If imaging scans or biopsy indicate the presence of kidney cancer, the cancer will be staged (see Kidney Cancer Stages) to determine the best treatment plan.
